Recent European spectrum develoments bring the 1452-92 MHz band into the spotlight

Mobile broadband spectrum

The auctions in Germany and Italy and the successful spectrum trade in the UK have brought the 1452-92 MHz frequency band into the spotlight.

Under the new EU harmonised conditions (adopted in 2015), mobile network operators can use this band for supplemental downlink to boost the speed of their 800 MHz networks.

Cullen International's analysis shows that although the band is largely unused in Europe, only a few countries have so far published - rather vague - plans to award the band for mobile broadband.
