New research on spectrum for 5G in Europe

5G spectrum

Many EU member states are preparing large awards of spectrum, in particular auctions of the 5G pioneer bands 700 MHz and 3.4–3.8 GHz. One of our new benchmarks covers all mobile spectrum bands.

5G will also use large blocks of contiguous spectrum in frequency bands above 24 GHz, in addition to the traditional mobile bands below 6 GHz.

Europe will in particular use 24.25–27.5 GHz (the 26 GHz band) but also studies 40.5–43.5 GHz and 66–71 GHz. Another one of our new benchmarks shows plans of 20 European countries on how to make spectrum available for 5G in these frequency bands.

These new benchmarks have been published in the scope of our Radio Spectrum service.
